  Family History - Welcome

Welcome to the Family History website.

This site aims to help you to trace your family history.

That means not just your family tree but also background information about people, places and events.

There is advice on how to get started and build up a picture of your family tree and family history.

There are also links to useful resources, particularly archives such as censuses, birth / marriage / death indexes and government records.

I have found researching my family history absolutely fascinating and hugely enjoyable. I've built up many "stories" of my family, based on public records and a little background research. For example, I was pleased to find that many of them were solid working class Brummies. They spent the 1800s living in various city tenements and working in brass foundries, breweries and factories.

Most of my research has been done online, using the many family history, government records and and genealogy websites available.

My teenage daughter is really keen for me to find an axe murderer or similar in the family tree. Every family traditionally has a "black sheep". So far I haven't succeeded, but I have found one who mysteriously disappears from the census records in 1850, but then reappears 20 years later. Was he on holiday .... in Australia ?
I've yet to find out but my research continues.

Family History is a passtime that will keep you busy for years !
I hope you enjoy researching your family as much as I have mine.

I also hope that you find this site helpful. I am still building it up and so some sections are not yet complete, but please come back as they will be. Please also click on some of the links or maybe buy some of the books - help to make me an Internet Millionaire !!
Any feedback on the site is most welcome.
